Maintenance: Dental Implants
Follow-up care for dental implants depends upon various factors such as the patients' type of implant solution, their overall oral health and special conditions (e.g. periodontal disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, rate of decay, et cetera). In general, a single-site dental implant supported crown should be cleaned daily — just the same as a natural tooth (i.e. regular brushing and flossing). Dental implant supported bridges, such as the "All On 4" or a traditional implant bridge that replace 3 to 4 teeth should be cleaned like tooth supported bridges (i.e. brushing and flossing with a water pik™). With over-dentures, it is necessary to clean the implant attachments, as well as the over-denture. For patients that are missing all of their teeth, maintenance at home is a little more complicated because special brushes and certain flosses are often recommended.
