IV Sedation: Permanent Dentures
Is there any pain or discomfort associated with this procedure? Will I feel anything? As with any surgical procedure, there are varying degrees of discomfort. For the "All On 4" patient, the surgical phase is performed under the complete comfort of IV sedation (administered by a board certifeid Anesthesiologist).
Post Operatively
The majority of our "All On4" dental implant patients comment on how surprised they were with the minimal discomfort they felt after the procedure. There will be minimal swelling, but it's nothing that cannot be controlled with ice and over the counter pain relievers. Patients typically resume a full schedule of activities within 24 to 72 hours. Specific post operative instructions will vary on a case by case basis. Immediate function cases (when we attach the teeth to the implants the same day), patients should maintain a soft / medium diet to allow for the implants to heal properly. This diet should be followed for a period of 8 to 12 weeks. In other words, nuts, hard candy, ice and other hard foods are contraindicated during this time period.
